I had a recent look at Facebook Stories filters and they are actually pretty cool. You can share a story and even send it to individual people. To view a story you simply tap the friends circle at the top of the app. Just like Instagram, Facebook Stories appear at the top of your newsfeed when you open the app. Now let’s move onto the newest platform of them all… The only con I can say about Instagram stories is that the sending and receiving of individual messages to friends is not as sleek or easy as on Snapchat’s platform. And of course it doesn’t have those cute dog or flower filters for your face. Instagram is a creative platform, and that’s why it makes it fun to play with different filters, emojis, and draw captions on your images. Or you could post an image of a meal and share in your Instagram story how you made it.Īnother pro (yes, you can tell I do love Instagram stories), is that you can be much more creative in your story telling. Say you just launched a new product, you could share an image of your product on your Instagram account and then mention in the caption that people can check out your story to see more ‘behind the scenes’ and get discounts. The more your Instagram account grows, the more people will also see your story.įor a business this is great because you can combine an image with a ‘story’. Instagram stories are my personal favourite because you have the best of both worlds - the sharing of single video or photo snippets with friends, as well as posting on a public story which has a much greater chance of being discovered by a wider audience. Now this is where Instagram is clever with their Stories. The con is that it’s a separate platform so if you want to share and build a brand more publicly you’re going to have to jump onto another platform to do that. This of course can be a good for those who don’t want to share information with too many people. So you literally have to tell people your Snapchat username so they are able to view your story. However you can’t follow anyone and there are no public profiles. It’s like another version of texting or sending messages on Facebook, expect that it’s based on photos. Snapchat thrives off of this way of communication. It’s become so popular because you can quickly share photos or short videos with your closest friends. The platform is the ‘original’, where it all began. Snapchat began with their ‘Stories’ feature in 2013. And you can put filters on your creations, draw on your images, and even add your location and temperature. You can share everyday moments of your life, whether it's your personal life, or giving exclusive insights into how you run your business. I’m going to share a few of the pro’s and con’s of each platform and their ‘Stories’, and then my thoughts on where this 'Facebook story' thing might go… Kerr is clear not happy about Facebook stealing Snapchat’s story concept.īut what do you think? And what are the users doing? They copied Snapchat’s concept and are now doing what Instagram is also doing displaying stories at the top of a user’s newsfeed.Īs Miranda Kerr puts it ‘Can they not be innovative? Do they have to steal all of my partners ideas?’ It seemed to work because Instagram stories which now has over 150 million active users is slowly taking over the number of daily active Snapchat users which sits at about 158 million daily users.Īnd now, as of March 28, Facebook got the same idea. It’s very similar to Snapchat stories expect that it has a few different filters, and the stories appear in a bubble at the top of a user’s newsfeed. Last year, in August 2016, Instagram decided to do their own take on this story feature and make it available on their platform. Since Snapchat was so popular, other social media networks began to pay attention to the concept of sharing ‘stories’ which makes it easy for people to create fun and engaging, original content, and share it with their friends. Snapchat is now worth more than $30 billion. The concept of sharing ‘stories’ with your friends that is sharing snippets of video and photo content which is only available for 24 hours, first became popular through Snapchat. Stories… we all like to hear good stories… Or in the social media day and age we love to watch them…
